Classroom Layout

The environment of the classroom is the first part of valuable classroom management. We believe that a classroom needs to make children feel comfortable. This is why we make our classrooms safe and relaxing. We have comfortable reading areas full of books and pillows so that reading will be enjoyable for the children. Morning talks are held at the gathering area where we also assemble to learn. Children will play, sleep and eat throughout many hours each week in the same classroom. The way their room is laid out affects how your child feels about himself, how he relates to the adults and children around him and how comfortable he feels about playing and exploring.

Each room is equipped with a Computer Center, Library, and Listening Centers.  Age appropriate computer programs, books and audio tapes enhance the curricular activities.

The classrooms are well-planned learning centers that allow for child choice and self-directed play, small groups, and supportive teaching that prepares children for academic excellence. The development of language, mathematical reasoning, and scientific thought is emphasized throughout all the centers. Changes to the learning environment, activities, and projects reflect emerging interests and individual goals. Learning centers offer guided experiences that encompass all the skills and understandings necessary for optimum development and success in school.

The environment within a classroom also strongly influences a teacher's ability to carry out an effective program throughout the day.  Children are taught to be independent and self reliant.
