Four Year Olds

Our program for four year olds encompasses a wide variety of planned activities centered around the developmental goals of the program. These educational activities offer your child experiences in language, math, science, music, and art. Our program focuses on the established developmental level of the children as individuals and is designed to meet each one where they are and lead them forward. TGS Kidz Academy uses Creative Curriculum, a nationally recognized curriculum as a framework in which we implement the Abeka Curriculum and our Little Scholars program.

"Energetic" and "imaginative" best describe the 4-year-old. Often impatient and silly, they discover humor and spend a great deal of time being silly and telling you "jokes." A 4-year-old's language may range from silly words such as "swanky-famky" to profanity. Loud, boisterous laughter may accompany such language. At TGS Kidz Academy we are committed to leading or children in the most positive and educational way.

Imagination suddenly becomes greater than life for the 4-year-old, who often confuses reality and "make-believe." Wild stories and exaggerations are common.

Four-year-olds feel good about the things they can do, show self-confidence, and are willing to try new adventures.

At TGS Kidz Academy we also promote learning through the following:

Reading aloud each day and encourage children to look at books on their own. Provide alternative reading material with a collection of outdated coupons, junk mail, newspaper ads, and old cereal boxes.
Saying nursery rhymes and finger plays together.
Encouraging them to tell stories to younger children.
Encourage interest in writing and words. We provide them with paper and notebooks for writing. Print letters and numerals on art work, and label toy shelves with pictures and words that describe objects.
Providing a variety of art experiences like: Make play dough. Create collages from magazine pictures, fabric, wallpaper, and newsprint. Encourage children to experiment with new media like wire and cork, soda straws, string, or yarn. Teach children to mix different colors with paint.
Teaching important number and space concepts. Sort and count everything in sight, like silverware, socks, rocks, leaves, etc. Talk about things being in, on, under, behind, beside, before and after, larger than, too far, etc.
We teach our four year olds the correct use of the telephone.
Four-year-olds have a strong need to feel important and worthwhile. That’s why we praise accomplishments, and provide opportunities to experience freedom and independence.
Teaching the use of landmarks to find their way around your neighborhood.
Encouraging physical development like: playing follow the leader. Pretend to walk like various animals. Set up an obstacle course indoors with challenges such as crawling, climbing, leaping, balancing, running across stepping stones and encourage walking with a beanbag on the head.

Encouraging multicultural awareness through representative dolls, puppets, pictures, and books. Encourage cultural aspects of all the families, and learn recipes, songs, and information about cultural celebrations.

TGS Kidz Academy offers an exceptional educational program that introduces academics through fun activities that not only invigorate the mind of a child but also boost independence, confidence and self-esteem. We challenge our children with a curriculum that captures their imagination, and a learning environment where they can make discoveries, solve problems, and think independently.

We believe that no one method of instruction is all comprehensive, we have drawn from several approaches and use traditional and progressive methods of instruction to develop a well rounded curriculum that encourages the social, academic, and emotional growth of the child.

TGS Kidz Academy uniquely designed curriculum, provides developmentally appropriate learning that is challenging, stimulating and meets the needs of infants through school-age children. Fascinating themes, combined with learning objectives, aid our teachers with planning learning experiences through music, art, fine and gross motor, language, evolving math and literacy, movement and drama. Our curriculum has a strong literature component. We believe that children become readers and writers by having someone read to them and many opportunities to express their thoughts and feelings through print. Our curriculum offers teachers hundreds of activities to choose from, each of which that is fixed to a specific learning objective.

Your children will not only make the developmental progress necessary for a successful transition to kindergarten, they will love the activities that get them there.

Additionally, our curriculum is based on the premise that children learn through active and direct interaction with materials with the adults who facilitate children’s learning. Manipulatives, puzzles, games and art materials stimulate "hands-on" learning and concrete learning experiences. We also know that children do not learn skills in isolation. Shapes, colors, numbers, letters and phonemic awareness are used throughout each day to give children a strong readiness foundation. We are always looking for fun and interesting ways to stimulate children’s learning.

At TGS Kidz Academy we feel we can make a difference in the lives of children and their teachers, and that we are responsible for the "whole" child. Our curriculum includes experiences with real works of art and classical music. Nevertheless, our children are never too young to learn about honesty, patience, or friendship. The combination of these to our curricula ensures your child will cover all the necessary readiness standards of successfully and confidently moving ahead to the next steps in life.
